Microsoft paying for Wikipedia Spamming!
Rick Jelliffe, a technical CTO in an Australian company is writing in his blog about being contacted by Microsoft via email two days back to update an article on Wikipedia regarding the Office Open XML, to put it in favor of the Software giants who just can’t have enough monopoly. Being a leading person in the XML community, Microsoft was trying to get a credible voice to vote for them:
“So I was a little surprised to receive email a couple of days ago from Microsoft saying they wanted to contract someone independent but friendly (me) for a couple of days to provide more balance on Wikipedia concerning ODF/OOXML. I am hardly the poster boy of Microsoft partisanship! Apparently they are frustrated at the amount of spin from some ODF stakeholders on Wikipedia and blogs.” O’Reilly XML Blog
There was a similar case during holiday season when Microsoft sent active Blog publishers top Ferrari laptops with Windows Vista pre-installed. Some of the bloggers blow the case up. Now, this guy have decided to make it. This makes me wonder how many others are really getting paid and contributing in the product reviews and Wikipedia.
Thanks a lot Rick, thanks for clearing up the case.
