AJAX - Good For User, Evil For Spiders
Posted by Bashar under Google , Internet , Search Engines , TechnologyMany new sites are adapting the new technologies that makes it easier and faster for the end user to browse their site. Gmail is the best example of useful application of the AJAX technology. You don’t need to refresh the whole page to search, browse, open nor send emails. So good that it became even better than using Outlook. However care should be taken when you apply those kind of technologies. They are good for the user who is already in your site, it is useful for specific kind of applications, but what about people looking for your site. How will they find it? Assume you have a rich news site, and it’s so fast and easy to use. All content is generated through AJAX. Users find it so easy to pick what they want. But despite you may have the best piece of news, people searching Google will not find the results from your site because they are all dynamically generated using AJAX, and web spiders usually aren’t that smart to index AJAX generated content. Someone did practical test on Googlebot and how it indexes normal content, Javascript generated content, and AJAX content as well. See the results here. Thanks for Slashdot for posting the URL.

Funny I should be reading this now, since I’m wondering how my email just sent me an email.

Errr … I found an email entitled “Hot News” and it was from me, Kroms. I clicked, but the language wasn’t anything I could read, but the sender - and recipient - was me.
I junked it.

careful from those. Specially with hotmail. Gmail has very good spam filter.

Know any good way to deal with this problem? :)

Well, first first rule of thumb, avoid placing your email anywhere public, like your blog for a start. Many sites ask you for registration simply to steal your email for spam. Spiders also look for emails on websites. I use my hotmail account to register in sites that I dont trust, just to get along.
Second, switch to Gmail, it’s much faster, better, and spam free.
Third, if you do get spam in your inbox, mark it as spam. This will help Gmail, or any other mail provider better filter future emails.

Hmmmm…I’ll put a form to solve the first problem, but I can’t switch from Hotmail since I’ve been using this email since 2001 and I have heaps of friends on it. And some people who contact me only occasionally use my email.
Hmmm…The third I do a lot. I think I should just create a form via Javascript.

Hotmail is the worst in terms of spam fighting. I had this same issue, but change to Gmail, simply u can import all your contacts. and send email to all to update your email to the new one.
Keep checking the old one for 6 months until you make sure all have directed to the new one.
