Surfing the net for news today where ever I turn I find iPhone news. It’s like nothing else is happening on this planet. I came across some interesting pieces of news and clips:
Steve Wozniak was waiting him self in the queue to get his hands on a bunch of iPhones. I wonder why I’m sure Steve Jobs would’ve given him what he wants. I think it was more of a marketing campaign as he came up wearing iPhone shirt with pre-notification he will be there. Want another proof it was marketing?
Steve Jobs have gifted free iPhone to all Apple employees (full and part time) with more than one year in the company. That’s an estimated $12M worth of value.
Here you can see the iPhone Touch Typing in action, claimed to be not so convenient at all. I’m not so sure of how truthful that is, but it’s up to you to decide.
And this is a nice side-by-side photo of the LG Prada and iPhone. One of them is a clone of the other.
I know many people in Kuwait are dying to get theirs hands on one. Even though my phone is begging for replacement (it’s Nokia 6600 and I work in telecom imagine?) I’ve spent enough money over the past two months and it’s gonna have to keep up for now.
Final note: If all these iPhone links are still not enough for you, use the Sphere Related Content below. I’m sure you will find much more.

I was hoping to see such a thing from Gmail as they promised I never have to delete an email again. Either that or I will be sending all emails from Gmail to here. Yahoo Mail Beta is really nice I like it, and their web chat is (let’s be honest) way more advanced than Gmail chat. They have come from behind and surpassed Google on web chat and size. I still however find Gmail much more convenient to use and don’t wish to switch back. So this is a call to Gmail to hear the cries.
Wonder if all others have gotyrn the unlimited size storage. I read sometime back it won’t be offered for all. Maybe they just gave it to me cause I’m so much light user right now. Did anyone of you get it? I’m interested in non-paying Yahoo users more.

The first shipment of iPhones have reached their drop locations six days before release now, and the first two iPhone campers have been interviewed. The two campers arrived 100 hours early. One of them is retired and seems to have no life but just waits for the iPhone.
I see this and think, God, in Kuwait if I wait by the bank door 15 minutes early few seconds before the door opens 5 people would jump infront and bypass me. Security usually allows another female or two as well (Ladies first!). So I wonder how silly I would look if I wait a whole week for new item to arrive when people come in last minute and over jump me. Welcome to Kuwait!

Thanks to Kroms who pointed this out, last night 7 + 5 did not equal 12 any more! Even 9 + 5 was not equal to 14 as well! I went back to old finger days math:
9
10
11
12
13
14 (Correct!)
But no the blog said, “You have failed to pass the challenge”. I am not %100 sure, but the last change I made was activate the wp-cache few days back. Theoretically, it could be caching the same Question text everytime, when the actual numbers are different on the server side. Thus, the poor user will enter the answer to the cached question, and will fail to pass! How unfair! This has resulted in the ultimate challenge and not even a single spam came last night.
I tried to clear the cache, deactivate the plugin but still am facing problems with the challenge. For the sake of it, I have removed the challenge for now, resulting in 38 spam comments only over the course of a night. If only they were real visitors I say :)
I just removed the whole cache folder in a desperate hope to resolve the issue. Nevertheless, it may be a good time to look for an alternative filtering as the current one was passed by spammers may times a day. I always wanted to have a Laplace Transform in the equation. Spammers are too stupid to know that one, or at least too lazy I guess.
Look forward to the new challenge. There might be top scores, best challenger and stuff like that. It could change the core idea of this whole blog :)
UPDATE: Blog is finally back up and running. As I was writing I removed the cache folder, it turns out to be more serious than I thought. I have low tolerance to the Del button so I went and removed everything that has to do with caching. Here, the problem got worse, and the only backup I have is at home and not too fresh as well. This is why you could have seen the blog down for quite some time. I wonder why problems happened when I deleted wp-cache related files only after I disabled it! Which is why I assumed it’s safe to remove them and make sure nothing else is cached anymore. Apparently I was wrong.

Would you like to hear me saying that to you? Most likely not. What if I tell you the government is spying on you. Imagine at any minute, you receive an email saying “I know what you surfed last summer!”. This is what Germany is trying to enforce by saving any connection data be it internet, voice calls, SMS or any other for a period of six months. Anonymization tools and services like Tor are illegal from then on as well. As a reaction, Google have threatened to close the German version of Gmail if the new law is enforced.
I am happy Google have made their official stand early clear, and hope to see other big names participate in the protest as well. If the government has the right to track all my online movements, then in the future we would expect tracking devices attached to us so that they know where we are as well. This is more security right? But it’s also zero privacy.

History seems to be repeating it’s self with a new release of Microsoft operating system. When Microsoft was working back then on DOS 2 OS, an unofficial quote was reported off the record that “DOS is not done until Lotus won’t run”. Lotus was the best spreadsheet program back then and have killed the Microsoft attempt to enter the competition. Having control of the underlying ground (DOS) gives Microsoft the upper hand in this however, so their were rumors that they made some hidden bugs that would stop Lotus from running. After the release, Lotus really didn’t run and they were in so bad shape Microsoft finally took on the lead.
Well you don’t get away with it everytime. People are aware now and won’t let it go so easy. Microsoft have bowed to the Department of Justice following a complaint by Google that Windows Vista makes it difficult for end users to utilize non-Microsoft desktop search-software. Despite it’s denial in the initial stage, Microsoft have promised now to make it easier for end users to use non-windows desktop search-softwares, and to provide documentation and more information for developers on how to make smoothly running search programs.
The changes are due with Service Pack (A.K.A Disaster Pack) 1. Question remains whether Microsoft would be doing what they are supposed to be doing really this time, or are they having other tricks still up their sleeves?

I have just been trying Wordpress 2.2 and I’m really impressed by the new Widgets feature that allows you to drag and drop blocks to the side menu, instead of going into the hassle of updating the menu manually. Much better. Performance wise I still did not notice the difference from my quick experience, however one thing let me down and is stopping me from upgrading to the new version. Plugin compatibility! As it is still very new, this is a common problem with open source projects. Free plugins have to be modified again to support the new release, and for me 2 out of 2 plugins I tried did not seem to work.

I am still playing with it and love it, just need to wait until all my required plugins are there. I would suggest you try it locally as well and see how you can benefit from it, and when are all your plugins fully supported.
UPDATE: WordPress 2.2.1 has just been released with new fixed, and you can get the list of supported plugins on WordPress 2.2.x here.
