Win-XP Dumbrep.exe

Software crash and failure are indispensable part of Windows since the very beginning. When it happens I usually immediately click close and restart my program, and NO I do not Send Error to Microsoft. Why? Once I did for some media player and the solution came back quick:

Problem Cause: Media Player

Problem Solution: Remove media player

My Solution then: Remove whole Windows!

Now the problem is not over with your program shutting down. After that I usually start hearing my computer creating noise like it’s about to launch into space. Checking running processes I see lots of Dumprep.exe. A Microsoft non-essential process for 3rd party applications that writes errors to text file and request to send it to Microsoft. The problem is that these non-essential logging-only processes take over all CPU resources and just keep running until you kill them.

Funny thing is Microsoft have an article on how to remove it, but it claims that this is a workaround to overcome most likely hardware issues or damaged registry entry. It doesn’t explain however why the process keeps running forever and not die! I am following their article and yet the two methods didn’t help :P.

Can’t you turn off error logging?

3baid: Well I don’t want to turn all logging off. It’s useful when the system crashes right? You wanna know who did it.

Maybe I should wait for next crash and see if there is option dont ask again :)

Microsoft Windows We Simply Suck :)

Wer3y: Yeah a lot :)

I am flipping coin now for Linux or Mac

Experiment with Linux since you won’t have much to lose and if you’re unsatisfied, try a Mac :)

I completely support your solution to the problem! And although I prefer my Mac over everything else – Linux is incredibly simpler to try out. Get yourself a copy of Ubuntu’s Live CD, boot from the CD drive and you’re in! No installation required. It runs slower than it would otherwise, but once the CD is out your computer is back to how it was before.

Linux is copmplicated!

Mac is ranking top 1st again

3baid: I tried it once but it didn’t boot :(

I think problem was with the CD and I will try again soon.

Tony: you’re right. I’ve seen it but didn’t try it yet. I have to cut down the expense I am unemployed these days :)

Blue Dress: We are geeks… it should be fun. I tried Linux few years back and liked it. It’s got much better now.

By the way, as we are in the talk, what brand of laptop would you recommend? Something not heavy, portable (some laptops are really not portable!) fast and reliable, no heating. This is why I was interested in Mac. It’s better from hardware side.

Macs easily have some of the nicest laptops around. On the PC side, I heard that HP makes decent laptops. Though you really have to research those things with a personal bias.

Tony: Thanks. I heard good things about HP too. I will see how it goes.

Computer Maintenance Tips…

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article, but it sounds interesting…

Ha ha this is so interesting are microsoft people providing joks?? I really stuck with windows because there are many software supporting that only. when the all software supporting for open source i’ll move on that.

Thatcher Ulrich: Im using Mac for quite some time without any real problem. There are always alternatives and becoming more common and better.
