Can my phone hold up till the end of the year?

This is my main concern as I went through the technology news today. My 6600 (yeah old) has been begging for the bullet of mercy for quite a long time now. More than a year back, the zero button stopped working twice. Every time I show unmatched laziness to buy a new phone, and my phone somehow feels sorry and resumes it’s function few weeks later. For over six months now, it’s been going damn pretty slow I can hardly open any message, and friends ask me to accept MMS and applications from them! :). Pretty embarrassing for a geek!

So what’s holding me up from changing it? Well at first, I had many other stuff that I wanted more, and every time I buy one of them I feel the guilt, or sense of responsibility to save some and buy the phone the next month. The other thing is, I’ve been waiting for the phone that grabs all my attention. iPhone could’ve been a good candidate, but I like a camera on the go, I don’t wanna use a hacked phone that might stop working any day, I was expecting new release of it in a year, and then came the SDK announcement to stop my dreams. Nokia phones are good for a year or so, then you probably can’t sell it for 10 KD. Sony Ericcson’s got some good phones as well, but I never liked the button layouts. And then there is the HTC phone I kept thinking about. I didn’t like the fact it’s Windows based, but all have spoken great deal of it so far. You can get Google Maps on it and enable the GPS. Pretty good. But some HTC don’t have 3G with them, which is a shame not to have with a modern phone, and the ones that have are costly. Android ofcourse was a candidate, but it’s taking long time to come, so I wasn’t thinking of waiting for it. Also, I am a bit hesitated about the initial release of it. But…

Today I read this. HTC is coming up with their “dream” Android phone at end of this year. This seems like the best choice of mix for me now. But the big questions is “Can my phone hold up until the end of the year!?”. I doubt it.

LOL I used to own 6600! I call it Miracle Phone! Back when I had it, rikabna li3ba bil shi3ib twadeek high up tshoof il nas tiny and spins you, now the mobile wasnt properly secured in the bag so it fell from up and the unbelievable thing is that when we found it, it was fine! Just a dislodged battery and a broken charm!

I wanna ask you, since you’re tech savvy and all, is Samsung Armani any good?

What!! are you reading my mind bashar? I just bought an HTC s710 for my father yesterday, and I never heard about the brand before yesterday!! The only one thing I was searching for is the big keyboard which he likes allot in his old Nokia E70.

I have to say it looks neat, and with wifi…. It just does it for him.

Kaileena: WOW… I know the ride, and… unbelievable! That’s what I mean when I say Nokia dont make phones as they used to be. Drop any new phone now from your pocket and start collecting the pieces.

As for Samsung Armani, I’ve never tried it. My general idea about Samsung phones is not good and I wouldn’t recommend it. That one looks nice in photos, if you want I can ask my friends at Telecom company if they recommend it, as they get lots of phones for testing.

Solo: Great brothers think alike wise man says. HTC is really great phone from all I heard and seen. I would like to wait for the Android one, but for your father, that might be a good choice I say. I got my father DVD Recorder with 400 GB Storage after searching in 6 shops. Eventually, it turned out I got a single-region DVD despite the sales man word it was multi-region :(. Happy Family day!

If the DVD single-region restriction is by software, you might wana try freeware: DVD Genie: (http://www.inmatrix.com/files/dvdgenie_download.shtml)

And if it’s hardware, check this: http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm

Same here my friend… My 9300i (second cell i’ve ever got, right after a 6600 as well) would barely make it to next year and I still need to make my mind. I will probably move to SE X1 if iPhone doesn’t come unplugged within the next year.

Solo: Well Thanks here Solo. I was gonna start looking for solutions, but you know, any hack could waive the warranty and I dont wanna do that. I will have a talk with them today and if they don’t turn out helpful, then I will resort to your links :)

MacaholicQ8: Good, so it’s not only me saying it :). The SE X1 looks pretty impressive, but a bit large. This depends on how adaptive you are to large phones. I personally prefer ones that slide into my pocket. My iPod is a bit larger I always tie it to my belt and it’s not bothering me.

Solo: I went to EUREKA. The guy said it’s a small issue and can be tweaked. His instructions didn’t help yet, I will contact them again. And the links you gave are useful for PC, they require Windows. It wont work on separate DVD Players :(

If I find something interesting, I will be posting it.

Bashar: probably your only choice is to convert the DVD region using some software and re-burn it :(

Yeah I’m used to bulky ones, like my current one, so it’s all good with me. Though I wonder how much it would cost here in Kuwait.

MacaholiQ8: Let me give you a hint. A FORTUNE!!! Problem is, I’m not sure if phones from US would work here. Anyone tried?

Solo: Sorry mate for the ate reply, but your comment got hosted in the Spam list and I just noticed it :)

Well, check my next post.
