Wataniya Migrating to Eight Digits Today

I’m not sure if they had newspaper ads or anything else, but this is a short notice. Wataniya sent mass SMS to it’s customers last night informing us they are moving to the eight digits plan today (Friday), and we have to add 6 to all the Wataniya numbers.

If you saw already, there is a converter tool to convert your phone contacts from 7 to the new eight digits numbering plan accordingly. It’s been also updated just recently to allow you to specify which operator you want to convert specifically, to adapt to this gradual migration phase.

I suggest you try the Java version if you can get the latest JRE 1.6, as the Windows version is built on an old release and is causing some compatibility issues. Ofcourse since it’s commercial software, I can’t afford to spend thousands for the sake of this program, and neither I intend to extend my Windows development life cycle. So please, bare it :).

I’ve been trying for two days the new numbering ;p , to see if they started on it and didn’t inform the public yet. I think they’re going to do it on phases so both numbering with be routable, if you dial 7 or 8 digits, then the first system will be obsolete of course. Being a Zain customer, I haven’t received their announcement yet. We’ll see how this whole new transfer goes down. I’m kinda dreading updating the whole telephone system both on personal devices and work systems!!

ahhhh this is gonna take time!!!! I hate it! time to convert, time to get used to….

what’s that phone?

maryam: I hope what you say is true. Initially both number plans work until they kill the 7 digits completely.

Ansam: Try the converter if you like. Java version seems more stable so far.

blasha: Sorry, my anti-spam doesn’t like you for some reason ;/

The phone is HTC Tytn II. It’s Windows based, has lots of features, GPS, Mobile Office, Qwerty Keyboard, touch screen. For the price though, the phone is not durable enough. After a while, it’s slower in response than older Nokia phones. It shuts down and restarts occasionally, and the camera is really one of the worst I’ve seen.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not slamming it to the ground. It’s just for 230 KD I paid for, I expect something much more usable and stable.

My cellphone number kicked the 1000KD scale. I’m in love with 8 digits. :D

MacaholiQ8: Congrats :)
do I get commision for writing the converter that made it?

Sure you do. :)

Though I did it the old fashioned way, I had to go through all my +200 contacts and add the eighth digit manually. It was nice to kill some time in Ramadan at work when I had nothing to do. ;P

MacaholiQ8: I thought you are an athlete teacher, and should already have students :)

Another thing is, are you sure about the prefixes. It’s pretty confusing when it comes to Wataniya and MOC
