‘Twitch Hiker’ charity traveler using Twitter

Is this completely insane or just smart genius experiment to the usefulness of Twitter? Twitterer Paul Smith (TwitchHiker), Al-Jazeera is reporting, is going on a journey that started on the first of March for 30 days, hoping to travel halfway around the world relying solely on other service, hospitality, advise, and transportation of the Twitterers following him, people who has never ever met before. All money made from the trip will be given to charity Paul Smith says.

Very courageous and interesting to see how far he can go. Coz he could end up on the streets if no Twitterer offered him a night stay. But do you think that could happen?

UPDATE: You can follow Twitch Hiker progress on the map here.

let’s see, “crazy psycho-twitter” may offer him to stay in his place!

I would ask for advice but to stay!! He needs to update at all times, just in case there’s a chance some crazy person is following him around!! – trust issues ;) – there are lots of insane people out there

But it’s an adventure … ;P

maryam: Well I used to think the same, but then there is this Couch Surfing where travelers share couch and hang out with people from other countries. I wouldn’t date to do it, but it’s full of good reviews, and I heard about people who did from Kuwait.

When the whole world is following this guy, you’d be stupid to harm him. On the contrary, many people like to help this celebrity now, and hey, they’re geeks :P

You can track his progress here by the way.

what about people who lies about what they are doing . I know some of my friends lies in the FaceBook status just to track more people (get their attention)!

Mahbob: Ammm.. did you see the video? He’s updating his progress all the time and linking with real twitterers. You can know where he is from the map link above.

haven’t you heard of people seeking fame!

Oh it’s that guy who put an end to TwitchHiker!!

Anyway I see he finished the journey already but I’m still sticking to my theory :)

maryam: Possibly seeking fame. Possibly getting a free pass around half the world. Who knows. Still, I love to see how his twitter journey goes. It’s an experiment definitely needed.

And, it doesn’t seem his journey is over yet. This is his last tweet:

“@juliedeborah Plan is another night in SF(don’t know where) then taking up @AccessInspirati’s offer of a trip to Sonoma County #twitchhiker”

I’m talking about other people like plane crash and fire in the wood :P

Mahbob: Aha… yeah could be :P

I think it’s a cool idea :)
Thanks for pointing it out :)

Nicole: Welcome :). Glad you liked it.
