Survival of the Geekiest
Every country has its own food serving and meal gathering habits. Some are bizarre for outsiders. In Iran for example, when visitors come for lunch, they would serve the meal in a room, then leave the guests alone in that room and close the door. That’s pretty odd and might seem inconvenient for some, including me. But their thought is this way you won’t feel shy and can eat all you want, the way you want, without enforcing any kind of eating habit. Eat as you like kind of treat.
In Saudi Arabia however, their approach to eat as you like is different, and a bit more challenging if I may add. A friend told me once about his visit to his relatives there, as he was seated at a low table, setting on the floor. And just as he was about to dig in, lights went out. He waited a bit for the lights to come back, but he seemed to notice food amount is shrinking, and people are already digging. He talked to his relative beside him but he nodded him back, as in don’t embarrass us, “Start eating!”. “What, but I can’t see the food” my poor friend said. Turns out this is their way of making you eat comfortably. With the lights off, no one will notice what and how you eat.
Pretty true, and not only that. If I fail to find any food to eat, no one would notice that either. Some people can’t adapt, and can’t see well in the dark. Such people might struggle against extenction. It’s wild world out there, but we geeks are not going out of it easily, for we have found ways to evolve our abilities so quickly, with waiting for the next thousand generations to come.

I’ve been to Iran and I encountered that situation, but in Saudi, well I think that’s just a family tradition and has nothing to do with other houses because the people we stayed with never bothered about turning off the lights.
My motto is the saying, “Eat what you like and dress what others like.” so don’t be shy to eat but be more sensible about what and how you eat. ;)

“Such people might struggle against extenction.” LOL!
Why complicate it? Most new phones have a light in them, just shed the light on *your* portion only.
