Digital Paperless Desk

Don’t you always end up with pile of receipts and no space to file them? And when one device fails, you’d have to dig up through the pile of receipts to take out the warranty and see if it’s still valid. Such tedious task that you sometimes end up paying to fix it your self rather than keep searching for ever.  That’s why I’ve been looking the past year for the ultimate scanner that will help me digitize all of my necessary documents and receipts in a way that will allow me to save more physical space, and get back to them easily in the future.

I think I might have found just that. The NeatDesk featured on Geek Brief TV seems to be just what I’m looking for, and a bit more. It’s designed to digitize your documents, receipts, and business cards. The intelligent software also tries to extract the text in the scanned document for easier retrieval by search in the future.

You can find this lovely gadget on Amazon, but alas, once again, there is the Windows version, which seems relatively good, and there is another Mac version! Please, you know no one is gonna buy a Windows and Mac version, so just make one that works for both. How hard can that be?

Still, I’m keeping this as top wanted thing on my list. My other option would be a Brother network scanner. My parents own one that works Windows and Mac, and it’s a Fax and copier also.

1) If you haven’t writing device drivers, don’t underestimate its complexity. It involves knowing all the signals of the device and knowing how to interface with an OS.

2) Let’s say you scanned the receipt, and when you needed it, you printed it. Would the shop owner still acknowledge it and honor the warranty, since your printed receipt is not the original one.

3) All shops keep their receipts but still mandate that you bring yours. Why? To inconvenience you and make you buy more rather than fix or replace for free.

1- since it’s their device and already have a mac version, yes I expect a good device to support both major home systems

2- some do, others may not perhaps. But I can argue I have official proof, and the least is I can know if the original receipt will get me warranty or it expired

3- again, some do and other don’t. If I have receipt no that’s good enough of proof

أخبار الرياضة: It’s $399… not cheap

its a bit pricey.. but i think this is a starter of various products yet to come into the market.

Rayboy: It’s been a while :). Yes it is, but if you need it, it might justify.
